Online Gambling Drives Growth In Denmark’s Gambling Market

According to the latest figures from Spillemyndigheden, Danish gambling revenue reached DKK 680m (£78.5m) in April. This represents a 2.3% increase compared to the same month in 2025.

Online gambling remained the market’s strongest-performing segment. Revenue reached DKK 392m during April, an 18.4% year-on-year increase and the highest growth rate across all gambling verticals.

Land-based bingo recorded the second-highest growth rate, rising 17% year-on-year. But, the segment generated only DKK 3m in revenue, making it the smallest driver of revenue.

Physical Casinos Lose Ground And Sports Betting Revenue Falls

Casino revenue fell 8.3% year-on-year to DKK 28m, highlighting the gap between retail and online gambling activity. Gaming machines and slot products performed more steadily, with revenue reaching DKK 96m during April, up by 2.8% from the previous year.

Revenue from sports wagers dropped 22.5% year-on-year to DKK 161m during April. The decrease was likely due to a less intense sporting calendar during this period. Denmark’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026 may also have affected consumer interest.

With neighbouring Sweden qualifying for the tournament, some Danish football fans may still engage with World Cup betting by supporting another Nordic nation. They will look out for top players like Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres, who can take Sweden into the knockout rounds.

Advertising Restrictions Could Change Future Market Dynamics

Danish authorities are currently developing measures to restrict gambling advertising during live sporting events. If implemented, the rules could reduce marketing opportunities during major tournaments and sporting broadcasts.

The 2026 World Cup is possibly one of the last opportunities for local betting operators to leverage a global sporting event of this scale under the current advertising framework.

The Danish regulator has released gambling revenue figures, showing a 2.3% increase from last year. Online casinos drove the highest growth, followed by land-based bingo. On the flip side, sports betting revenue declined due to few available matches and the national team’s failure to reach the World Cup 2026 finals.
