The Prizes and Bets Secretariat (SPA) has taken action and suspended the operations of 7 betting companies for not meeting the system security certification requirements. Among them, Pixbet has already resumed operations after winning a court decision.
The SPA’s action is due to the operators not complying with article 8 of Ordinance 722. This rule requires licensed betting operators to submit a security assessment report—issued by a certified body approved by the regulator—within 90 days of receiving the license. The report proves the integrity and safety of the operator’s betting system.
According to the SPA, the lack of these evaluations puts user protection, financial security and anti-money laundering efforts at risk. Continued non-compliance may result in fines of BRL 40,000 (approximately USD 6,960) per day. After the suspension notice was issued last Friday, 3 of the 7 operators have already regularized the regulatory issue. EA Entretenimento e Esportes and Bet.Bet Soluções Tecnológicas SA submitted the required documents, while Pixbet won the court case and had its license restored.
Currently, only four operators remain under suspension. They are:
Operator | Domain(s) |
Betesporte Online Betting Ltda | lancedesorte.bet.br, betesporte.bet.br |
Bell Ventures Digital Ltda | bandbet.bet.br |
Sortenabet Gaming Brasil SA | sortena.bet.br, betfusion.bet.br, betou.bet.br |
Logame do Brasil Ltda | b2x.bet.br, geralbet.bet.br, lider.bet.br |
Pixbet Once Again Avoids Suspension from SPA
For the second time, Pixbet has dodged a long licence suspension from Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) thanks to the federal judiciary’s quick intervention.
In April, the SPA suspended Pixbet’s licence after the company failed to provide the mandatory technical certification for its platform. But that was quickly overturned when Judge Anderson Santos da Silva ruled in favour of Pixbet and the operator was back in business within 24 hours. Pixbet had challenged the suspension, calling it “illegitimate and disproportionate”. The company cited reputational damage and financial risk, especially with its BRL 470 million master sponsorship of Flamengo, one of Brazil’s biggest football clubs.
Interestingly, both of Pixbet’s suspensions were issued on a Friday – just before Flamengo was to play over the weekend. In both cases, the operator got a fast-tracked court ruling to keep its licence in time for the matches. The latest court order came from Judge Leonardo Tavares Saraiva who recognized the urgency of the situation, using the legal term “periculum in mora” (danger in delay). He granted an injunction so Pixbet and its brands Flabet and Bet dá Sorte can continue to operate without interruption.
About Pixbet’s suspension in April, lawyer Fabio Ferreira Kujawski said: “Licence suspension should only be used for the most serious and repeated breaches of Brazilian law. Before that, warnings or financial fines should be considered. Suspension should be the last resort.”
