Fanatics has received regulatory approval in Ontario, moving closer to launching its online gambling business. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario issued an internet gaming operator registration to a Canadian arm of Fanatics Betting and Gaming.
This two-year registration lists Fanatics Casino as the associated gaming site. Ontario operators can offer both online casino and sports betting, meaning Fanatics could launch both products.
The company must still complete an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario before it can begin accepting customers. Receiving AGCO registration is therefore not the final approval, but it signals that Fanatics is approaching launch.
Ontario could become Fanatics’ first international gambling market
If Fanatics launches, Ontario would become its first gambling market outside the United States. The company currently offers online sports betting, online casino and prediction markets in the US.
Its arrival would increase Ontario’s operator count to 50, including the government-owned Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Recent additions include DAZN Bet and Hard Rock Bet, increasing competition across casino and sports betting.
Ontario has become an important entry point for operators seeking wider expansion in Canada.
Alberta could become the next Canadian expansion target
Fanatics’ Ontario move also raises the prospect of a launch in Alberta, which opened its legal gambling market in July with an Ontario-modelled framework. The state now has 27 approved sites.
To enter Alberta, Fanatics would need to follow a similar process by securing registration and signing an agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The company has not yet completed those steps.
Ontario looks like the logical first international step for Fanatics because the market is mature, competitive and familiar with major US brands. If the launch performs well, Alberta could become a natural second move as the company builds a stronger Canadian footprint.
