Angola Expands Public Campaign Against Illegal gambling Across Two Major Markets

Angola’s Institute of Game Supervision has intensified its campaign against illegal gambling by taking a public awareness programme to two of Viana’s busiest markets.

Working with the Municipal Administration of Viana, the regulator engaged traders, vendors and shoppers at the Regedoria and Luanda Sul Markets. Officials explained the legal risks linked to unauthorised gambling and encouraged the public to use licensed gaming services.

The initiative forms part of the ISJ’s effort to strengthen supervision and inspection across Angola’s gambling sector. It was led by Deputy General Director Cláudio Paulo. Alongside enforcement, the regulator is focusing on public education to improve understanding of gambling rules and compliance.

Officials met directly with merchants and customers. They explained responsibilities under Angola’s gaming laws and the possible legal consequences for people involved in unauthorised gambling activities.

Members of the public could also ask questions and receive guidance from ISJ representatives. The regulator believes direct engagement can help prevent illegal gambling before formal enforcement becomes necessary.

Educational materials support prevention and responsible gaming messages

The ISJ distributed flyers, posters and roll-up banners containing information about responsible gaming, illegal gambling risks and the importance of choosing authorised operators.

Officials used simple messaging to explain how unlicensed gambling operates outside the country’s legal framework and why regulated gaming activities are subject to government oversight.

By placing the campaign inside busy markets, the regulator reached local business owners, shoppers and other community members who may not otherwise encounter formal regulatory information.

This educational work complements the ISJ’s inspection activity by giving consumers an understanding of legal gambling and the risks attached to unauthorised services. The regulator also linked the campaign to broader objectives around protecting vulnerable groups, maintaining confidence in Angola’s legal gaming market.

Nationwide expansion will combine education, prevention and inspections

The Viana outreach programme is part of the ISJ’s strategy to improve gambling regulation across Angola. It believes stronger awareness of existing rules can reduce participation in illegal gambling while encouraging more consumers to choose licensed services.

Following the activities at Regedoria and Luanda Sul, the ISJ confirmed that similar campaigns will be expanded to other parts of the country. Future initiatives are expected to combine public education, prevention measures and inspection activity as the regulator strengthens its national approach to illegal gambling.

The strategy is intended to make enforcement more visible at community level while improving understanding of the rules governing operators and consumers. For the ISJ, awareness supports compliance before violations occur, while inspections and enforcement actions target brands operating outside Angola’s legal gambling framework.

The Institute of Game Supervision has strengthened enforcement against illegal gambling through its recent public awareness program across two major markets. They distributed flyers and posters on the importance of using licensed platforms. The ISJ believes an increase in awareness will reduce participation in illegal gambling and make the industry easier to regulate.
