Pragmatic Play Expands into Canada’s Newest Regulated iGaming Market

Pragmatic Play has expanded into Alberta’s newly regulated iGaming market, becoming one of the first content suppliers to establish a presence after the province’s official launch.

The gambling market opened on Monday under a dual structure managed by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC). The framework focuses on consumer protection, responsible gambling and directing gaming revenue towards public programmes.

For Pragmatic Play, the move strengthens its North American footprint while aligning the company with one of the continent’s most anticipated regulated market launches. The supplier enters Alberta having already gained experience through partnerships with leading operators in Ontario.

Certified content and single API integration strengthen operator offering

Pragmatic Play’s certification covers a wide portfolio of casino content, including slot titles such as Fury of Anubis, Big Bass Blast and the popular Gates of Olympus series. The approval also extends to its live casino products, including blackjack, baccarat, roulette and a range of live game shows.

A key part of the company’s proposition is its single API integration, allowing operators to access slots, live casino games and game shows through one connection. This reduces technical complexity, shortens integration timelines and simplifies product deployment for operators entering the Alberta market.

The supplier believes this technology improves operational efficiency while supporting player engagement through a scalable and personalised gaming experience. It also strengthens Pragmatic Play’s competitive position against major suppliers such as Evolution and Play’n Go.

Alberta presents a major commercial opportunity for regulated suppliers

Alberta is expected to become one of Canada’s largest regulated online gambling markets. Industry forecasts estimate the province could generate between CAD0.26 billion and CAD0.58 billion in gross gaming revenue during its first year. Long-term projections suggest annual revenue could reach CAD1.5 billion by the tenth year.

Some market estimates also indicate Alberta could surpass Ontario in online gambling spend per adult, making the province an attractive destination for operators and suppliers seeking growth.

Company reinforces its commitment to Canada’s regulated sector

“Alberta represents an exciting new adventure for regulated iGaming in Canada, and Pragmatic Play is delighted to be among the first suppliers bringing premium entertainment to operators and their players from day one,” said Sharon McHugh, Director of PR at Pragmatic Play.

“Building on our strong momentum in Ontario, this expansion reinforces Pragmatic Play’s long-term commitment to the Canadian market. We look forward to working closely with partners across the province as the market continues to develop.”

The Alberta market launched with around 46 operators and 50 brands, including Bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars and Canadian operator Betty. While casino brands are expected to drive much of the market’s long-term revenue, competition will likely be intense across the casino and sports betting verticals.
