Police Raid Online Betting Call Centre in Jalan Tun Razak, 30 Arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Police stopped an online gambling call centre after raiding an office on Jalan Tun Razak. City Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa reported that a team from Wangsa Maju and Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Vice, Secret Societies and Gambling (D7) Unit carried out the operation at 11.30 am today.

Operation and Arrests

Authorities arrested 30 suspects, including 23 local males, six local females, and one male citizen from China. Ages of the suspects ranged from 20 to 27 years old, according to the police statement.

Confiscated Items and Investigation Details

Police investigations and secret monitoring showed the suspects operated an online gambling call centre at that location. During the raid, police confiscated 30 computer monitors, 60 mobile phones, along with two network routers, one modem, and an access card from the office.

The police believe this syndicate mainly targeted gamblers who lived in China. Information suggested the gambling ring had run for two months, with a Chinese national named as the suspected head, but this leader remains free.

All suspects taken into custody are scheduled for processing at the Wangsa Maju police station. Officials are investigating the case according to Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, which covers public announcements describing gambling locations.

A guilty person may face fines from RM5,000 up to RM50,000 and can get a prison sentence of as much as three years; for every gambling machine police seize, another RM5,000 to RM50,000 fine is possible. Rusdi asked people with information about similar illegal gambling sites to call 03-2115 9999 or visit any nearby police station.
