Buenos Aires Politician Wants Public to Support Rules for Gambling

Diego Garciarena, who works in the Buenos Aires Chamber of Deputies, tried to move a gambling regulation bill faster by asking people to sign online.

Key Points:

  • Garciarena put a link on his social pages to collect signatures backing his party’s gambling control proposal.
  • The main purpose of this bill is to stop kids from becoming addicted to gambling.
  • Garciarena’s social comment says the Buenos Aires Governor, Axel Kicillof, has not taken action.

Argentinian lawmaker Diego R Garciarena asked people to help with a proposal made to tackle gambling problems among children and manage online gambling businesses. He posted an online form on X, so people could show they agree with this plan, which is one of several bills with support from more than one political group. He represents the Radical Civic Union from Buenos Aires and started checking public opinion because he sees no progress where lawmakers meet.

Key Features of the Proposal

Since the end of last year, the bill Garciarena proposed has moved slowly through the lawmakers’ process. This proposal says internet betting platforms must use biometric checks and more controls for getting licenses and having ads online. He has asked Governor Axel Kicillof of Buenos Aires and his government why they ignore this issue. Argentina does not have a single law for iGaming; all 23 provinces make their own rules.

He mentions in an online post that online gambling continues without a check, and he says their bill wants to stop gambling problems for children. A video along with his form talks about reports showing that gambling problems are becoming common in schools. The Association of Private Schools of Argentina says kids start gambling because of ads and free bonuses, and parents and teachers do not always notice. When people fill the form, they must write their National Identity Document number, so only Argentine citizens can give their agreement.
