DGOJ Imposes €77.4 Million in Fines on 14 Unlicensed Gambling Operators

Spain’s DGOJ has slapped 14 gambling operators with €77.4 million ($87.9 million) in fines for operating in the Spanish market without a license. This is the latest in a series of measures to protect consumers from unregulated gambling platforms.

The operators sanctioned are: Wot NV, Magicwin Games Tech LTD, Winbet NV, Spicyjackpots Games Tech LTS, Lama Tech Limited, Chestoption Limited Liability Company, Pennytech Holding BV, Group Gaem BV, Mibs NV, FGS Software Solutions SRL, Investan NV, Tinietech Holding BV, Adonio NV and Techsolutions Group NV.

13 of them were fined €5 million each for “very serious” infractions of operating without a license. One of them was fined €10 million. All 14 were also banned from the Spanish market for 2 years.

The regulator said these measures are a strong stance against illegal gambling and are to protect players. “These sanctions reflect the DGOJ’s commitment to consumers and compliance, especially against operators that put players at risk by operating outside the regulated framework,” the authority said in a statement.

This comes after recent industry news, including the 2024 State Online Gaming Market report released in March which showed a 17.6% growth in Spain’s online GGR to €1.45 billion for the year.

The DGOJ has also been actively working with the sector. In February the organisation held its first AML conference for gambling, with industry and public institutions representatives. This was to strengthen compliance and transparency.

Last week the DGOJ met with fellow European regulators at the UK Gambling Commission’s Spring Conference where online identity theft and cross border cooperation were on the agenda.

All this is part of the DGOJ’s overall strategy to reinforce the integrity of the regulated gambling environment and to deter illegal gambling.
