Bet365, a leading bookmaker, has been fined $33,000 by New Jersey regulators for allowing users to place bets on events that had already occurred or were in progress.
A spokesman for the regulator stated that these violations had occurred multiple times. For instance, bettors were recently able to bet on a mixed martial arts fight that took place weeks earlier and was shown on the operator’s platform. This was not an isolated incident.
In another case, pre-match odds for the Honda Golf Classic were available just four hours before the event began. However, this violation seemed less severe compared to the previous incident.
Bet365 declined to comment on the matter.
The amount of the fine, $33,000, has raised eyebrows considering the company’s massive revenue of nearly $4.5 billion in 2023.
