Messaging app says its ad guidelines will follow rules set by local law.
Key Points:
- Rakuten Viber gives a word to speak with authorities on gambling ads.
- DICT tells apps that bans may come if gambling is found online.
- Viber says it does not let gambling happen inside or handle it anyway.
Viber shares that it plans to meet with regulators in the Philippines for its gambling ads, news from ABS-CBN reported. Rakuten Viber explains that its present rules allow gambling promotions only where such things are legal. It shares that it asks for ideas from proper offices in the Philippines and will change policy after receiving their word.
Viber’s Ad Policy and Requirements
The company website shows that Viber gives space for certain ads when they relate to online and offline casinos, lotteries, poker, or sports bingo. But first, advertisers must ask permission from Viber and then show documents for a license, a legal place, and age limits. DICT talked earlier this week and said it checks messaging apps and online shops for ties to online gambling.
DICT’s Warning and Viber’s Clarification
Secretary Henry Aguda from DICT shares that they can stop or ban apps if they break the rules. Take note, Viber lets some gambling ads only if there is permission first. Viber adds that even if some ads appear, the app does not let gambling work in the app. The company explains, “We do not let gambling use our app, and no actions happen through us, nor do we pay or handle funds for gambling.” Rakuten Viber also mentions that it has only trusted partners to guard users and follow local laws.
