A joint investigation by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) uncovered that 571,410 accounts belonging to social assistance (bansos) recipients are suspected of being used for online gambling (judol). Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, said he will take direct measures against those misusing funds, beginning with checks on Family Hope Program (PKH) assistants.
Strict Sanctions and Immediate Removal from Assistance Lists
Gus Ipul stated, “If a PKH member’s account is found playing judol, we plan to check the responsible assistant,” on Thursday, July 17. The PPATK recorded more than 7.5 million online gambling-related transactions through social assistance recipient accounts in 2024, with total deposits nearing IDR 1 trillion. Officials matched the data from more than 28 million identification numbers (NIK) of people receiving assistance with lists of known online gambling participants. From this process, 571,410 social aid recipients were confirmed as active judol players.
Gus Ipul commented, “The findings shocked us. Social assistance was only for basic needs, not for different purposes, especially gambling.” Currently, the Ministry has an official report from PPATK and they are still confirming detailed information. If any misuse is confirmed, those people will lose their social aid access right away. “Any violations will remove you from the recipient list. We will record you out,” Gus Ipul explained.
