SkyCity Asked for an Immediate Trading Halt

The company is getting ready to make a big announcement in the next few days.

Important points are below:

  • SkyCity made a request to stop trading for its ordinary shares and corporate bonds, using ASX and NZX rules.
  • This trading pause helps SkyCity finish the plans for a possible capital raise along with its financial year 2025 results.

SkyCity confirmed it made the request to halt trading for its ordinary shares and corporate bonds. ASX Listing Rule 17.1 and NZX Listing Rule 9.9.1(a) were used for this request. SkyCity said the halt aims to keep the market stable during the time it prepares a big announcement. SkyCity said this coming announcement will talk about a planned capital raise and will also include financial results for the year ending 30 June 2025. In the previous year, called FY24, SkyCity’s revenue grew by 0.3 percent, but its net loss was NZ$143.3 million. This loss happened in part because of lower value of the SkyCity Adelaide assets and changes in tax.

Capital Raise Plans and Financial Results

Later, SkyCity changed its FY25 predictions, and now expects EBITDA to fall by 4 percent, which matched market conditions after the H1 25 report. The company recognised news stories about a possible capital raise but explained that it has not made any final decision yet. Work continues on the details, so SkyCity cannot make a public statement right now. Here is a fact: SkyCity runs entertainment and hotel properties in both New Zealand and Australia. The halt on trading is supposed to last for one trading day. It will end at the start of trading on the NZX on 21 August 2025.

Possible Second Trading Halt and Loyalty Program

SkyCity shared that if the capital raising happens, then one more one-day halt in trading can be requested. This extra pause would let SkyCity finish the institutional part of the capital raise. The company also said the FY25 Results are still the same as the updated full-year guidance from 6 May 2025. After all this, SkyCity introduced a new loyalty system for New Zealand. This program gives people one way to access and use cards at SkyCity’s venues.
