Robinhood Launches Pro and College Football Prediction Markets

Robinhood Derivatives, LLC (RHD) has introduced pro and college football prediction markets within its app. This expands the Prediction Markets Hub on their Robinhood app to include the most popular sport in the United States.

The new feature allows customers to trade on outcomes of professional and collegiate football games, covering all regular season pro matchups and every Power 4 school along with independent teams.

Expanding the Prediction Markets Hub

The launch is a significant addition to Robinhood’s portfolio of prediction market offerings. Customers will be able to trade contracts tied to football game outcomes in the same space where they manage their investing and trading activities. According to the company, pro and college football prediction markets will roll out and become available to eligible users in the coming days.

At launch, Robinhood will offer contracts for the first two weeks of the pro and college football seasons. The platform intends to release additional weekly matchups as the season progresses. For example, Week 3 games will be added once Week 1 concludes.

“Football is far and away the most popular sport in America. Adding pro and college football to our prediction markets hub is a no-brainer for us as we aim to make Robinhood a one-stop shop for all your investing and trading needs,” said JB Mackenzie, VP/GM of Futures and International.

Robinhood is tapping into a massive base of sports fans who might be new to event-based trading by offering football prediction markets. The company aims to make participation simple through its app interface, while enhancing customer engagement with weekly game releases.

Compliance and Disclaimers

While the product offers new opportunities for customers, Robinhood has stated key disclaimers, as they do not make markets in futures or event contracts. The company clarified that its pro and college football prediction markets are not affiliated with or endorsed by any professional or collegiate athletic association, football team, or league.

The use of team names, colors, or abbreviations within the product does not imply any official partnerships or approval from third parties.

What Next After This Rollout

The rollout of football prediction markets coincides with the start of the professional and college football seasons. This provides timely entry for fans eager to test their knowledge of game outcomes. Football consistently dominates American sports viewership, so introducing prediction markets shows an effort to capture attention from investors and sports enthusiasts.

As the season advances and weekly matchups are added, Robinhood expects customer participation to grow. The move is part of the company’s plan to blend traditional investing with event-based markets, creating a more comprehensive financial platform.
