Misiones Shuts Down 112 Illegal Gambling Websites

In Misiones, a province in Northern Argentina, authorities removed 112 gambling sites operating illegally. Local reports confirmed this action, coordinated with the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC). The state-owned Misiones lottery requested the removal of the unregulated websites to prevent minor access. Authorities feared minors could easily access these illegal gambling platforms online.

The Misiones lottery, IPLyC, offers a reporting tool on its website for illicit gambling sites. Judge Martin López of the Civil and Commercial Court of First Instance Number 3 in Posadas ordered immediate blocking. Internet service providers in the region must now enforce the blocking of the offending sites.

Judge Highlights New Methodology to Detect Rogue Operators

The IPLyC first filed the request for blocking on 5 September 2025. The judge noted that this lawsuit followed a new methodology for detecting rogue operators. The process involved both the Cybercrime Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General in coordination. Preventing adolescents from accessing gambling is a central goal of IPLyC initiatives. The organisation targets minors in public communications and educational campaigns across Misiones. On the new collaborative process, the judge stated: “We have been pursuing legal actions for several years.”

President Héctor Alejandro Rojas Decut of IPLyC said: “This is a significant achievement for enforcement.” He added that the measure enables blocking and provides a framework for future illegal site prevention. He reminded the public that regulated websites in Misiones include the domains ‘.bet’ or ‘.ar’ in URLs.
