A general assembly will soon establish a new union representing sports betting and online gaming companies operating in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The new organization is known as the Union of Betting Operators and Online Games of the State of São Paulo. Their aim is to unify the voice of the sector during a period of increasing regulatory activity and structural transformation. 

The hybrid-format meeting will lay the groundwork for the union’s legal status and governance structure. This will allow for in-person and online participation. The call for the assembly was signed by representatives of prominent market players including Sol Serviços de Intermediação, Betboom, and Stake Brazil.

Participation Criteria and Documentation Requirements

Only companies with proven activity within São Paulo state will be eligible to participate in the formation of the union. To join, firms must present several documents including corporate registration papers, proof of legal representation, and concrete evidence linking operations to the region’s betting or gaming landscape. 

This selective approach ensures that the union remains a functional body composed of stakeholders, directly impacted by policies and regulatory developments within the state.

Sector Seeking Stronger Institutional Representation

The creation of Sindbet/SP signals a notable shift toward institutional organisation within Brazil’s burgeoning gambling sector. As federal and state-level authorities push forward with regulation and licensing frameworks, operators are increasingly aware of the need for structured representation to defend their interests and navigate legal complexities. 

For instance, Brazilian football clubs have already voiced concerns over potential advertising restrictions on sports betting. Many clubs depend heavily on sponsorship revenues from betting brands and argue that these limitations could threaten their financial sustainability. The new union will serve as a critical platform for voicing concerns collectively.

Objectives and Structure of the New Union

The agenda for the inaugural assembly will include the formal foundation of the union, the approval of its organisational statute, and the election of its first executive board. Delegates will also determine the scope of the union’s activities, outline membership criteria, and discuss immediate advocacy priorities.
