Record $831.6 Million Virginia Sports Betting Handle Achieved in October

Virginia’s sports betting handle surpassed its previous monthly record by a 9.3% margin. Virginia sportsbook customers placed wagers totalling $831.6 million throughout October’s betting period. Revenue for the month reached its highest levels since January’s performance numbers. The handle exceeded November 2024’s previous record of $761 million significantly. Growth measured 9.3% above that of the earlier peak achievement in Virginia. Last October’s spending increased 19.5% when compared year-over-year. This September’s handle trailed October’s total by 12.8% difference overall.

Online wagering accounted for $824 million according to Virginia Lottery reports. Retail sportsbooks at land-based casinos accepted $7.6 million in bets. October’s adjusted gross revenue totalled $75.3 million from all sources combined. Revenue grew 53.7% compared to October 2024’s reported figures statewide. The $64.5 million from September fell 16.7% below October’s achievement. Virginia couldn’t establish a new revenue record despite the handle reaching all-time highs. The $86.4 million record from November 2024 remains unbeaten currently. October saw $74.6 million in revenue generated through online betting platforms exclusively. Retail venues produced $739,551 in revenue during the same timeframe. The hold percentage across Virginia reached 9.05% for all October wagers.

Monthly Tax Collections Exceed $11 Million in Virginia

Three casinos and 14 mobile operators possessed authorisation for accepting wagers legally. Major brands included FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Bet365 and ESPN Bet operating. TheScore Bet replaced ESPN Bet through a rebranding announced this week. Individual operator breakdowns remain unavailable from the Virginia Lottery’s public reporting system. October’s market leader cannot be identified without operator-specific data releases.

Customers received $751 million back from winning bets placed during October. Other deductions totalling $5.3 million appeared in lottery records without details. No bonuses or promotions qualified as allowable deductions in October. Tax revenue from sports betting operations reached $11.3 million monthly total. The General Fund Allocation collected $11 million of tax revenue generated. Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund Allocation received the remaining $282,793 portion.
