The decades of fidelity to the gambling of a Michigan resident has brought the desirable outcome: the life-changing award. A whopping $6 million prize that originate from a scratch-off ticket. Now aged 60, the man, who wants to remain anonymous, has recently hit the jackpot, making his 40 years of playing an old hat. The experience was so overwhelming that he was near fainting.
The lucky player, who has decided to stay anonymous, bought the winning ticket at the Najors Liquor & Deli store on Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights. The ticket was for a game called “$6,000,000 Wealth,” one of the Michigan Lottery’s most expensive instant games, priced at $50 per ticket. For him, the high cost proved to be worth every penny.
“I’ve been buying scratch-off tickets for over 40 years,” the winner told officials from the Michigan Lottery. “It’s something I’ve done regularly for a long time. When I scratched this ticket and saw the $6 million prize, I felt like I was going to faint. I couldn’t believe it. I had to scan it on the Lottery’s mobile app just to be sure it was real. Even now, it doesn’t feel real.”
This incredible win makes him the first player to claim a top prize in the “$6,000,000 Wealth” game. According to the Michigan Lottery, there were three top prizes of $6 million available when the game launched, meaning that two more remain unclaimed.
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli praised the milestone in a statement. “Since launching our first $50 instant ticket in July 2022, these premium games have quickly become a favourite among players,” she said. “We’re thrilled to congratulate the lucky individual who just claimed the first $6 million top prize in our new game. We hope this win inspires others to keep playing responsibly.”
The winner visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing to officially claim his prize and opted to take the winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $4.1 million before taxes.
As for what he plans to do with the money, the man said he’s keeping things simple for now. “I’m going to take a vacation first — I need time to relax and let this sink in. After that, I plan to save the rest.”
Aside from the rest of the top prizes, the game still has 71 of 78 second-tier prizes, $10,000 each, and 4,330 of 4,810 third-tier prizes of $2,000. Overall, the odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.18 for a mix of a higher rewarding lottery option for the Michigan Lottery players.
