EGBA 2024 Report: €3.8bn Contributed to EU Economy

Today, EGBA has 321 online gambling licences that are active across 21 European countries, and these members include several major operators from the region. Based on the new report, data now reveals exactly how much these companies added to the EU market in 2024.

Key Statistics

EGBA showed that the total tax revenue reached €3.8bn for the year, and €148.9m supported gambling research, education, and treatment (RET) programs in the same period. RET funding from EGBA members increased 143% over the year, after €49m was given in 2023. The report added that 69% of member customers, or 26.7 million, used safety tools during the period. More than 100 million safety messages were sent to customers in 2024, and 89% of all employees received safer gambling training, while 42%-46% of targeted messages showed a ‘positive’ outcome in players who are seen as high risk. EGBA member companies now count 38.6 million customers, compared to 32.5 million at the end of 2023. Among these, 75% are male, and 58% fall between 18-35 years old.

Sustainable Practices & Contributions

During 2024, 26.7 million customers accessed safety tools, up 28% from last year, according to EGBA. Most customers (65%) chose deposit limits, others selected self-exclusion (12%), and some picked time limits (11%) as forms of protection. In terms of age, younger players formed the most users of safety tools: 21% were aged 18-25, 28% were 26-35 years old, and 30% were aged 36-50. Safety messages grew, with EGBA members sending 100 million messages in 2024, which is an increase of 64% from 2023.

Diversity & Renewables

For EGBA members, 57% of company employees in 2024 were male, and 43% female, repeating the gender split seen in 2023. Additionally, 71% of all employees were aged 26-50, and 16% were in the 18-25 age range.
