A Twitch Streamer in Denmark Has Been Fined to Pay DKK 10,000 for His Actions

The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden has reportedly fined a Danish Twitch streamer DKK 10,000 ($1,505) for adverts for unlicensed gambling sites during his streams.

The authority says the streamer had been promoting gambling services that do not have the required license to operate in Denmark. After an investigation into the streamer’s activities the case was sent to the police and the authority recommended the fine.

This is the second time the Danish Gambling Authority has sanctioned a Twitch streamer for promoting unlicensed gambling services. The authority says such violations undermine consumer protection and fair market practices, especially in a space as big and open as Twitch.

Despite increased regulation, unlicensed gambling – especially skin betting and similar black market activities – is still present among streamers on the platform. Skin gambling is when you wager virtual in-game items with real world value on unlicensed websites, many of which are beyond the reach of national authorities.

Twitch has in recent years tried to curb gambling content on the platform. This was after public pressure to protect young audiences from risky and potentially illegal gambling. Twitch now explicitly bans content from certain gambling sites – especially those not licensed in trusted jurisdictions. Banned sites include popular names like Stake and Roobet.

Also Twitch’s terms of service says you’re not allowed to share affiliate links or promo codes to sites with slots, roulette or dice games. Twitch wants to reduce harm by blocking pathways that could lead users to unregulated gambling content.

In other news Spillemyndigheden recently reported a record high in online casino revenue in March, even as they’re working to shut down illegal operators.
