Canelo Alvarez’s $500K Oleksandr Usyk Bet Elicits Dire Warning from Former Champion

Confidence and controversy often mix together in boxing, and Canelo Alvarez fits both at the same time. People know Canelo for his fight style that doesn’t step back and his way of keeping to his training, so big challenges are usual for him. Other days he moved between weight classes and signed with brands around the world, and everything he does is usually fast and big. This week, he surprised everyone not by fighting but by making a very large sports bet.

Bold Bet from Boxing Icon

Things started when Canelo said on his Twitter that he put a very large $500,000 bet on Oleksandr Usyk to win against Daniel Dubois when they meet for all heavyweight titles on July 19. He shared on his tweet, “Usyk has already won against top fighters in the last five years. Oleksandr’s stamina is strong; he fights technically and uses his mind. I see this focus and support it, so I chose to bet on him. Oleksandr, do your work!”

There was a picture of the ticket in his post, making it clear he could win $630,000 if he guessed right. But some people thought it looked strange because Canelo was in a video there too, talking with younger men who seemed to be betting as well. According to what was in the clip, Canelo watched them win and decided to put his own big bet on Oleksandr Usyk. The company where Canelo made his bet showed the video with words, “$500,000 with just one click others check numbers but @Canelo bets big on Usyk. No looking back, just real champion belief. On 1win, winners come to play!”

Gambling Promotion or Personal Choice?

This makes it look like Canelo’s tweet could be an advertisement for the betting site 1win. Many of his followers gave support to Canelo’s choice to trust in Usyk’s skills, yet some people reacted differently. Anthony Fowler, who used to hold the WBA International super-welterweight title, quickly wrote on X with a strong warning: “Shouldn’t be encouraging gambling Canelo it’s RUINS lives.”
