Revenue from online casino activities contributed $259.8 million to Ontario’s total iGaming revenue in May. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) from all iGaming sources reached CA$338 million (US$247 million) in Ontario that month, registering a new monthly peak, with player wagers also achieving a historic maximum even though fewer players were active.
Ontario’s unadjusted GGR for May broke the previous monthly record of $328.5 million, established in January 2025, reflecting an increase of 2.9%. Data from iGaming Ontario highlighted a 40.3% year-on-year rise compared to May of the past year and showed growth of 8% over April 2025.
From this total, online casino operations contributed $259.8 million, up 45.3% year-over-year. Sports betting revenue accounted for $71.8 million, which was an increase of 26.3%, while internet poker generated $6.3 million, up 18.9%. Online casino controlled 77% of May’s iGaming revenue market share in Ontario. Sports betting portion stood at 21% and internet poker obtained 2%.
Ontario iGaming Sets New Record with $8.07 Billion in May Wagers Despite Fewer Players
Ontario iGaming wagers reach a landmark $8.07 billion regarding money staked, players in Ontario wagered a record $8.07 billion across all iGaming products in May. This figure exceeded March’s previous record of $7.95 billion, making May the first time Ontario’s monthly wagers surpassed $8 billion. Looking at year-on-year, total iGaming wagering increased by 28.9%, and compared to April 2025, there was a 3.5% rise in monthly spend.
Most of the spending went to internet casinos. The total for May, $6.96 billion, was 30.9% higher than the same period last year. Players bet $972 million on internet sports betting, a rise of 18.5%, while poker saw $129 million in wagers, up 11.6%. Interestingly, these revenue and spend records occurred even though fewer active players participated. Monthly counts of active player accounts dropped 2% year-over-year to 1.07 million. Yet, average revenue per active player reached $316, growing 10% over last year.
