Spanish Online Gambling Market Booms in Q2 2024

The Spanish online gambling market continues its upward trajectory, defying some of the recent legal restrictions. Let’s break down the key findings from the Q2 2024 report:
  • Overall growth: Total Gross Gambling Revenue (GGR) reached €346.34 million, a healthy 10.79% increase year-over-year.
  • Market breakdown: Casino games led the way, generating €171.69 million (50% of GGR), followed by sports betting at €145.48 million (42%). Poker and bingo rounded out the market with €25.56 million (7%) and €3.61 million (1%) respectively.
  • Increased player engagement: Deposits rose by 17.87% year-on-year to €1.09 billion, while the number of new player accounts registered with legal operators soared by a whopping 46.57% to 452,032. Additionally, the average number of active players per month jumped 23.65% to 1.4 million.
  • Marketing mania: Operators spent a record €120.21 million on marketing activities, representing a 22.46% year-on-year increase. Interestingly, spending on affiliate marketing remained relatively flat at €12.78 million.
  • Operator landscape: The market is home to 78 licensed operators, with online casinos (50) being the most prevalent. This is followed by bookmakers (42), poker operators (9), bingo operators (3), and lottery operators (2).
