DraftKings throws another $5 million punch in the fight for Missouri sports betting legalization. This comes after Caesars Entertainment, a major operator with existing brick-and-mortar casinos in the state, donated $4 million to the opposing campaign. It’s no secret online legalization might not be in Caesars’ best interest.
DraftKings isn’t holding back. This latest contribution brings their total support for legalization to a whopping $10 million. Their main competitor, FanDuel, has also chipped in a significant $4 million.
It’s a battle for control of Missouri’s sports betting market. But there’s a bigger picture here. While these industry giants duke it out, a staggering 73% of the online gambling market is being dominated by unlicensed operators. That’s right, a recent report estimates that illegal operators raked in a staggering $29.1 billion out of the total $39.9 billion market share in the first half of 2024 alone. The report also highlights a vast network of 892 illegal operators and 651 affiliate sites promoting them.
